End of class

I had a lot of fun writing in this class. So far all my writing teachers at NIU have intrigued me. I usually have always hated writing classes because it was just dull papers about things I did not care about. Such as dull drivel of what do you think when the author said that he hates cats. Then you have to sit there and make up reasons you think he hates cats and have it be 12 pages because if it is not long it means it is not good. So far all of my Teachers here have made me put myself in my writing and made think about what I want to write about and enjoy the class. Just like the rest so far with this class I have actually learned something from a English class.

Restaurant project thought

After finishing the presentation today I can say I had a lot fun with it and from what I can tell so did others. Just tearing something down and making it how you want it to be was a lot of fun. At first I had qualms about doing this project as I didn't really know what I would change in a restaurant. Apparently it came much easier than expected so much so that we had to cut down things we were going to change as it would be too much stuff. This might be one of my favorite projects I have done in a while and watching everyone else's was like watching a show like bar rescue.

Mistakes

I find it odd how many mistakes are made when first wringing something.  It seems as you go back there is no way you missed that mistake. I was just proof reading a paragraphs I wrote and that took me about five minutes to write, and then I go to proof read and I take 20 minutes fixing and rewording things. even now as I am writing this I am going back and fixing mistakes even though I am trying not to do it. I got curious and searched up why and it just happen to be habits we know are wrong but still do it subconsciously. I recommend watching the video I found it interesting.

Food for thought

I was having a discussion with one of my roommates about how he thinks people never learn anything and everything is memorization. We had this talk for a few hours and came to a conclusion. That maybe there are no real original ideas with the amount of people that currently exist there is bound to be many who have the same thoughts and the only difference is if we chose to act on it or not. For instance there was probably many racist like Hitler but never did it but probably had the same idea. Then we came to the notion of if the person who had the cure of all illness had the idea but died with it we would never know. Which lead us into what if everyone did everything they thought of would the world be better or worse. I said it would be better as there would be more advancement. Curious on what others think

Procrastination

I have a test coming up and as I was studying I thought about all the procrastinating I do. I think it stems from the pressure of finishing something fast which makes you much more focused on the task at hand. While it is always great to do something weeks in advance. When ever something needs to be done in a short period of time it always takes a lot of focus as you a worried if you are going to get it done or not. I think over the years of my procrastinating I have gotten used to it and like the feeling of being rushed it makes me more in tune with the subject. So now I do not consider it procrastination but just readiness for a tough battle.

Technical comunication

My view of technical communication is that it is mostly just a simpler way to rely information. Rather than just state facts in a point by point format or ramble on in drawn out super detailed explanations. It is the happy medium of enough information and enough conversation to make it simple to digest and understand. The best way to do it was how we made a story out of our posters they all could have been very convoluted and just about what happen or super simplistic just regarding the details. With just enough of both of those people were able to make a engaging presentation which brought the information that they wanted to deliver raped in  a engaging story and thoughts they while making their design changes. The best part is any story can be simplified to be made more technical and anything to technical can be watered down to make it more deliverable. My view of technical writing has stayed the same but has been more refined to what it truly means. I think the more skilled one can get in the ability to put info in a interesting way the better they become at technical writing they can become.

Presenting.

I had my presentation for my redesign in my English class the other day. It was a bit hectic as I felt my redesign was not good and my topic was not very good either. Surprisingly people seemed to like it, so it seems all was good. For my presentation I forgot to slow down when I talk, so I have no idea how long it actually was and hope people could hear and understand me. I have no problem presenting and like doing it. I feel that my presentation was not my best performance. If any one who saw it has any flaws With my redesign and presentation would love to hear them.

Scaredy Cat Reflection

Scaredycat a short film by Andy Blubaugh is about Blubaugh’s life. In it he describes a attack he had happen to him and how it affected him. At first I thought it was about O.C.D. and how that makes him feel more safe ,but then it turned into something larger of how people view safety. As a child Blubaugh said he never had anything violent happen to him until he was attacked. He goes on to say that the world is not really dangerous anymore, which shows how sheltered he had been and why the attack affected him so harshly. The easiest way for me to understand it was to put it in terms of weather. For us who live in the Midwest we are used to cold weather and such. So for example if the temperature were to dip below 30 degrees we would be fine and used to it ,but some one who lived on a tropical island it would most likely devastate them as they have never experienced something like it before. They may even get sick or feel unusually cold. To an extent it is the same with violence if you grew up with danger and violence a mugging would still shock you but it wouldn't shut down your world and harshly change your views to the point of having a irrational fear. That was the message I got from the short film. Different experiences mold you into reacting to different experiences in more extreme ways. I like how he handled the film and showed his fears and tendencies through little details like him straightening papers every time he was around a young black man. The only thing I would have done differently from a creative standpoint is show the full scene of him getting mugged and then proceed with the video not have it scattered throughout the film. Other than that i found it quaint and well made.

Blogs

I never really liked creating blogs but I do like reading them. I Think its because sharing thoughts to random people is done in so many other ways now through social media. Now when I think about it blogs are just the same but with words so its not really that difficult.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I went for a more monochromatic look with gray, white, and black theme for the background as I like to compare a lot when I write and point out opposites and black and white are the best opposites. Any feed back on how it looks would be much appreciated.
